⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉

Character: Lunafreya Nox Fleuret
Age: 23
Canon: Final Fantasy XV
Canon Point: Post Chapter 10

Background: Wiki.

Personality:

On many ways, Lunafreya serves as the foil character for Noctis (her fiance, and FFXV's protagonist). Where Noctis is indecisive and shy, Luna is eloquent and driven. Where Noctis is initially face his destiny, Luna is unfailing in her duty and understands what she must sacrifice in order to fulfil her destiny and support her king. They make a good match -- a match that expunges the darkness from the world and purifies Eos's star (whatever that means) -- but it is clear that Luna possesses the more traditionally masculine traits. She is stoic, sure, and unflinching. She knows her own mind and what she intends. No one could ever accuse Luna of wavering or being cowardly.

In casual interaction, Luna is polite and formal, often utilising a rather fanciful manner of speech. Despite no longer being a princess, she maintains an air of nobility and regal dignity. She treats everyone she meets with a base level of respect. It isn't a simple act. It is what she believes, in her heart, everyone deserves: to be treated with fairness and kidness. This is best exemplified in her final (living) interaction with Ardyn: although he means her - and all of Eos - ill, she tries to give him the Oracle's blessing, seeing in him his pain and something worthy of healing.

As the Oracle, Luna has forged a covenant with the Six and can beseech them on behalf of the people and the world. A few times in game, she uses this power for healing. Even when she fears the toll of the Oracle's role will lead to her premature death, she barely wavers -- only once does Lunafreya let her fear control her. In a quick conversation with Ravus, we see her reinvigorated by her brother's words. Luna may not be infallible. Like everyone, she has fears and weaknesses. On the whole, though, she is remarkably determined and it is that determination and resilience that gets her through the bleakest veins of FFXV's storyline.

There are times that Luna exhibits low self esteem. Or, at least, an overly pessimistic understanding of self worth. In two separate conversations, she diminishes her own worth and claims that her only value is as the Oracle of Tenebrae. She fails to give any credit to her courage, determination, compassion or resilience. It isn't made clear where her belief that her only value to Noctis is as the Oracle comes from, as they are shown to have a very close friendship as children, and everyone in Noctis's party thinks quite highly of her. However, it can be argued that this harsh estimation of her own self-worth is what gives Luna the drive to accomplish all that she does in-game: a desperate, unflinching need to make her own worth and value clear. '

Although reserved in her manner and displaying gracious tendencies, Luna does not hesitate to give her unfiltered opinion when she truly believes something. There are several clear examples of this, such as her candor regarding Ravus's misbeliefs. She does not hesitate to call him the Empire's lapdog, nor does she let him dissuade her from her beliefs or goals. This can be said for many of her interactions, however. Despite her diminutive appearance, nobody is ever really successful at telling Lunafreya whay to do. Once she makes up her mind, it's rather like talking to a wall. She knows her own mind and will not be moved.

With regards to Noctis, her feelings are very strong. They were childhood friends and he looked up to her as someone both older and wiser. Luna never coddled him and arguably inspired him with her steadfast, composed conviction even as a pre-teen. Through-out her part of the story, Luna admits to longing to see Noctis - to wanting to be children again, innocent and ignorant and happy together - but knows she cannot put him in danger with her presence. Although she loves him deeply as a friend and potential partner, she holds her duty in higher regard... and that is what ultimately drives them apart when it leads to her untimely death.

In Final Fantasy XV: Kingsglaive, Luna tells Regis, "My duty is my destiny. I am prepared to accept whatever may come to pass." This ties back to Luna's belief that her worth, purpose and whole being are tied to being the Oracle and the girl - the person - is comparatively unimportant. It's to that end that she says she isn't afraid to die as long as she fulfils her duty and, in the end, chooses to infuse Noctis with the power to subdue the Hydraean rather than heal herself when her wounds prove deadly. Unto the end, she keeps her word: her duty is her life, and once it is done, she is no longer necessary.

Abilities: As the Oracle, she inherited the abilities to form covenants with the Six and beseech them on behalf of the Chosen King, essentially bridging the link between said king and the gods of the world. However, those gods were quite mercurial and would demand force or even blood. She could also grant healing to the sick and injured through prayer.

As the Six are not present in Empatheias, however, Lunafreya will simply be an ordinary young woman.

Alignment: Peromei — Lunafreya bases most of what she does on hope that her actions (and Noctis's actions) can bring about a bright, peaceful future for all of Eos. Hope is the basis for her covenant with the Six. There are also a few brief moments in canon where she almost succumbs to despair, making Peromei the most fitting Arehtei alignment.
